HP has only provided Apple Update with a basic Printer Driver for this Model of Printer for Lion. The original HP Software that came with your Printer is NO longer supported with LION. HP told me they may eventually update THEIR software, or may not. In the meantime they direct people who need to PRINT & SCAN to Apple's very basic 'PRINT & SCAN' utility in System Preferences:

I went through different forum topics but still haven't gotten a clear answer to my question. I have a deskjet 3050A J611 all-in-one printer. I was able to succesfully set it up for printing. My problem is it won't let me scan. It says: Scanning software for this printer is currently unavailable.
- Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
- Click Print & Scan ( ).
- Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
- Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen
- Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
